The evil stepmother was pretty fun to design. I wanted to create a
costume that clearly showed opulence and presence. The evil stepmother
(in my version of Cinderella) is an over the top powerful woman that
shows characteristics of "more is more," she has a great mixture of
renaissance period and medieval combined to look more avant-garde. Not
only does she have fur sleeves and a fur collar, but she has a brocade
fabric, and a restricting renaissance starched style collar, along with a
heavy uncomfortable headpiece. She has
embellishments everywhere, and she is so concerned about looks and
appearing "higher class," wearing uncomfortable and constricting
clothing is not an issue.
